My child cannot read yet in January: should I worry?
Not necessarily: each child learns to decode at their own pace between 6 and 8, and it says nothing about intelligence. Practise syllables every day (5 to 10 minutes) and reread the same short texts. If the difficulty persists, talk to the teacher, then to a speech therapist if needed.
Should my child learn multiplication tables in first grade (CP)?
No. In first grade children discover what multiplication means (groups, repeated addition). The tables are learned from second grade on, starting with ×2, ×5 and ×10. It is better to consolidate numbers up to 100 and mental math.
Does this curriculum match official school programs?
Yes, the term-by-term progression follows the broad outline of the French national curriculum and works as a useful benchmark for families anywhere. You can adapt the pace to your child's needs.
What if my child is ahead of or behind this curriculum?
