Patterns in the 8 times table
The results are the doubles of the 4 times table, and the units digits go down by two: 8, 6, 4, 2, 0, then the pattern starts again.

The trick that works
For the 8 times table, double three times! 8 × 7 = double × double × double of 7 = double 14 = double 28 = 56. Or: 4 times table doubled.
What you already know
Because 8 × 7 = 7 × 8, the order does not change the result. If you already know the 1 to 7 times tables, you already know 7 results of the 8 times table (8 × 1 to 8 × 7). Only 5 new results remain to learn: 8 × 8 = 64, 8 × 9 = 72, 8 × 10 = 80, 8 × 11 = 88, 8 × 12 = 96.
Common mistakes
- 8 × 7 = 56 (again!) — same trap as 7 × 8
- 8 × 6 = 48 confused with 8 × 7 = 56
- 8 × 9 = 72 and 9 × 8 learned separately (identical result)
