Patterns in the 4 times table
The results are the doubles of the 2 times table: 4, 8, 12, 16… They are all even and their units digits repeat in groups of five: 4, 8, 2, 6, 0.

The trick that works
For the 4 times table, double twice! 4 × 7 = double of (double of 7) = double of 14 = 28. This trick turns the 4s into a sequence of two doublings.
What you already know
Because 4 × 3 = 3 × 4, the order does not change the result. If you already know the 1 to 3 times tables, you already know 3 results of the 4 times table (4 × 1 to 4 × 3). Only 9 new results remain to learn: 4 × 4 = 16, 4 × 5 = 20, 4 × 6 = 24, 4 × 7 = 28, 4 × 8 = 32, 4 × 9 = 36, 4 × 10 = 40, 4 × 11 = 44, 4 × 12 = 48.

Linking the 4 times table to the other tables
The 4 times table is the double of the 2 times table: 4 × k = 2 × (2 × k). Example: 4 × 7 = 2 × (2 × 7) = 2 × 14 = 28.
