Patterns in the 12 times table
The results are all even and go up in steps of twelve. 12 × k means k dozen: 3 dozen eggs make 12 × 3 = 36 eggs.

The trick that works
For the 12 times table, break into 10 × N + 2 × N. 12 × 7 = (10 × 7) + (2 × 7) = 70 + 14 = 84. This trick works for all multipliers and remains the most efficient.
What you already know
Because 12 × 11 = 11 × 12, the order does not change the result. If you already know the 1 to 11 times tables, you already know 11 results of the 12 times table (12 × 1 to 12 × 11). Only 1 new result remains to learn: 12 × 12 = 144.
Common mistakes
- 12 × 7 = 84 often confused with 12 × 8 = 96
- Forgetting to add the double — kids only give 10 × N
- 12 × 12 = 144 — memorize as the "gross" (12² = 144)
