In Grade 5 children read and write numbers with seven, eight and nine digits: the millions period joins the thousands and ones periods. The worksheets generate numbers up to 999,999,999, printed in groups of three digits, with inner zeros. Decomposition is done by period: millions, thousands and ones, with up to three digits in each box. You can also write in words, compare and order numbers.

Why use this worksheet?
Up to 999,999,999
Seven- to nine-digit numbers drawn at random every time, with inner zeros to practise reading large numbers.
Decompose by period
Three boxes: millions, thousands, ones. Each box holds up to three digits, like a place-value chart organised in periods.
Demanding comparisons
The two numbers have the same number of digits and start with the same digit: only a careful reading of the periods gives the answer.

Frequently asked questions
How large are the numbers on the Grade 5 sheets?
Up to 999,999,999, nine digits, just under one billion. In France the cycle 3 progression published by Eduscol goes from the million up to the billion; check what your child's class is working on.
How do I read a number like 305 040 270?
Cut it into periods of three digits from the right: 305 | 040 | 270, that is “three hundred five million forty thousand two hundred seventy”. A chart of periods (millions, thousands, ones) helps avoid mistakes.
Why is decomposition done by period in Grade 5?
With nine digits, one box per place would be too long. The Grade 5 sheets ask for the number of millions, thousands and ones, each box holding up to three digits. Grade 4 uses one box per place.
Can we review smaller numbers?
Yes: choose Grade 4 (up to 999,999), Grade 3 (up to 9,999) or lower in the same generator.
Can I customize this worksheet with a different theme?
Yes. Beyond the educational content, you can choose from 10 themes (space, ocean, unicorn, superhero…) that change the color palette of the worksheet to make it more appealing to your child.
