How the sheet works
Each line has the word in dark letters, then two light copies to trace, then a line to write it by memory. The layout teaches in four steps: look, say, trace, remember.
- Look: your child reads the word aloud before writing anything.
- Say and trace: they say each letter while tracing it with a pencil.
- Cover and write: they hide the dark word with a hand or a card, write it on the line, then check it against the model.
- Fix: if one letter is wrong, trace that word again; do not rub out and re-write at speed.
How much per day
One line takes about a minute. Three or four words a day is plenty for a 5- or 6-year-old; older children can do a whole page. A short, repeated routine works better than one long session.
When to use it
Tracing is for words your child can already read, or nearly: it connects reading to spelling. Use the flashcards first, then the tracing sheet for the words that are read quickly but spelled wrongly. For a child who is just learning to hold a pencil, the alphabet tracing tool is a better start.

Frequently asked questions
+What font are the words in?
A plain, rounded print font. The letters are large enough to trace with a standard pencil.
+Is it right for a child who writes in cursive?
The sheets are in print, not cursive. Most children learn to read and write in print first.
+How many words are on a page?
10 words per A4 page, each with the model, two light copies to trace and a line for writing.
+My child finds the whole sheet too long.
Fold the sheet and do only the first 3 lines. Short and successful beats long and tiring.
