What is the difference between unit rate and cross-multiplication?
Unit rate: divide first to find the per-1 value, then multiply. Cross-multiplication: multiply diagonally across the equals sign. Unit rate is more intuitive; cross-multiplication is faster in Grade 5.
How do you explain proportionality to a child?
Start concrete: if 1 liter of juice costs $2, how much do 3 liters cost? Build the table together before using algebra. The idea of "always the same ratio" is the core concept.
Are ratios and proportions the same thing?
A ratio compares two quantities (3:5). A proportion states that two ratios are equal (3/5 = 6/10). Worksheets cover both concepts in an integrated progression.
