Frequently asked questions
Which multiplication tables should a Grade 3 child know?
By the end of Grade 3, ร2 through ร10 should be automatic (many curricula extend to ร12). Tables ร2, ร5, ร10 come from Grade 2; tables ร6, ร7, ร8, ร9 are the main focus of Grade 3.
How to help my Grade 3 child with division?
Division feels hard because it has multiple steps. Start with divisions linked to known multiplication facts (42 รท 7 = ? because 7ร6=42). Use "derived facts": if 7ร6=42, then 42รท7=6. Practise with exact-division exercises.
What comes after Grade 3?
In Grade 4, numbers grow to thousands, fractions are introduced formally, and geometry becomes more complex. Strong mental math in Grade 3 is critical for this progression.
My Grade 3 child is fast but makes careless errors โ what should I do?
Teach the inverse-check habit: if 7ร8=56, verify that 56รท7=8. Slowing slightly and building that checking reflex is more useful than going faster.
