Dot-to-Dot 1 to 20 — Printable Worksheets (Kindergarten, Grade 1)

Connecting the dots from 1 to 20 is the natural next step after the sheets that stop at 10 or 12: children now have to find the teen numbers, 11 to 20, where the spoken word ("thirteen") and the written numeral (13) do not line up as neatly as in the first ten. Each sheet has 20 numbered dots placed so that the picture appears when they are joined in order. You pick from ten designs — star, house, fish, butterfly, rocket, cat, apple, car, sailboat or heart. Each number is written next to its dot, placed so that it does not cover the neighbouring dots. The A4 PDF is generated in your browser, with the child's name if you like.

Why use this worksheet?

The teen numbers, 11 to 20

Matching the word children hear ("fifteen") to the numeral they see (15) is the real work of this range. Dot-to-dot makes them look for each number, one at a time, in order.

10 designs to choose from

Star, house, fish, butterfly, rocket, cat, apple, car, sailboat, heart: a different picture on every sheet, all with 20 dots.

Answer sheet option

A version with the lines already drawn lets you check the result, or show a child what they are about to discover.

Frequently asked questions

What age is a 1 to 20 dot-to-dot for?

Typically the end of Kindergarten (age 5-6) and Grade 1 (age 6-7), when a child reads numbers up to 12 or 15 without hesitating. If twenty dots feels like too much, start with a 1 to 12 sheet and move up after a few successes: the length of the sheet matters as much as the numbers on it.

My child skips numbers or gets them wrong. What can I do?

Have them say each number aloud before the pencil touches the page, and trace the sequence with a finger first. If one number keeps causing trouble (16, 17 or 19, for example), write it on a whiteboard, read it together, then find it on the sheet. It is a useful signal: that number needs work, not the whole sequence.

How can I check the order was followed?

The picture only appears if every dot is joined in order: a line cutting through the shape or a missing corner shows exactly where the mistake is. You can also print the answer version and hold both sheets up to the light.

What comes after 1 to 20?

Once 1 to 20 is comfortable, try the 1 to 50 sheet (50 dots, more detailed pictures), or change the skill with counting by 5s and then by 10s, available in the same tool.

Can I customize this worksheet with a different theme?

Yes. Beyond the educational content, you can choose from 10 themes (space, ocean, unicorn, superhero…) that change the color palette of the worksheet to make it more appealing to your child.
