Comparing Groups Worksheets — Kindergarten (Ages 5–6)

In kindergarten the groups to compare go up to 20 objects: the difference can be just one, and a quick glance is no longer enough. These sheets show two groups of circles, stars or squares, never equal, lined up in rows of 5. The instruction is the same on every sheet: “Circle the group that has more.” The child counts row by row, or pairs one object from each group.

Why use this worksheet?

Up to 20 per group

Each group holds between 1 and 20 objects: the gap can be very small, which forces counting or pairing.

Rows of 5

Rows of 5 let children count in groups (5, 10, 15) or compare row by row.

Same-size shapes

Within a box the objects of both groups are the same size: the child compares quantities, not areas.

Personalised A4 PDF

8, 12 or 16 exercises, shape of your choice, the child's name and a theme. The groups change at every generation.

Frequently asked questions

How is it different from the Pre-K sheet?

In Pre-K the groups go from 1 to 10 objects. In kindergarten they go up to 20, which makes small differences harder to see.

Can the two groups be equal?

No: the two groups always have a different number of objects, so the instruction always has an answer.

How can I help a child who hesitates?

Have them count each group aloud while touching the objects, then compare the two numbers. For small differences, pairing objects one by one is safer than counting.

And splitting a number?

In MS and GS the same tool also offers a splitting exercise: filled and empty shapes, and an addition to complete (3 + ? = 7).

Can I customize this worksheet with a different theme?

Yes. Beyond the educational content, you can choose from 10 themes (space, ocean, unicorn, superhero…) that change the color palette of the worksheet to make it more appealing to your child.

Do I need an account to download this worksheet?
