Tips for using this worksheet
Say the word before and after writing it
Ask your child to read the model aloud, write it, then read what they wrote. Saying the word ties its sound to its spelling; copying letter by letter without reading it is closer to drawing than to spelling.
Cover the model and write it once more
After the guided copies, fold the model out of sight and have your child write the word from memory, then compare. Copying checks the hand, writing from memory checks the word.
Use words from your child's own day
The custom category takes any words you type: family names, this week's reading words or the spelling list from school. Words that matter to the child stick better than a random list.
What next?
Three or four words per session are enough in Kindergarten, while a Grade 2 child can fill a page. Stop before the effort turns into a chore, and bring the same words back the next day. Once a word comes out right without the model, replace it with a new one, and move up a level when the lines start to feel too wide.
